The Macrina Community Announces The Journey for teens and parents
The Macrina Community is pleased to announce a new program for teens aimed at engaging them in finding meaning and purpose in their lives: The Journey.
Marin County psychologist, Madeleine Levine, serves as Senior Advisor to The Journey program.
The Macrina Community was inspired to develop this program in response to Dr. Levine's book, The Price of Privilege: How Parental Pressure and Material Advantage Are Creating a Generation of Disconnected and Unhappy Kids. Over the last year, Dr. Levine led discussions with parents at several gatherings sponsored by The Macrina Community.
The Journey is open to any teen in grades 7, 8 or 9. It focuses on the psychological, emotional, and spiritual challenges of adolescence, however it is not a religious program.
Teens participating in The Journey will gather every other week starting January 11 for activities focused on helping them discover who they are, beyond video games, designer clothes, social networking web sites, and academic grades. Inviting teens to join The Journey, program director Jeff Greenwald says: "Within each of us is an inner teacher that can offer us deep wisdom, guidance, and strength. I am convinced The Journey will transform lives, mine included." The program will culminate in a "rite of passage" ritual for teens and parents.
Parents will meet monthly to explore their shifting role as children move through adolescence and to participate in some of the playful and insightful activities of The Journey.
