Perhaps you consider yourself a skeptic, and agnostic or even an atheist. Maybe you prefer questions to creeds. You’ll find many others here who share these qualities. Embracing the mystical aspect of our tradition, we find reason to propose that God is at work in all times and in all places, bringing healing and reconciliation to the world — and not just to one particular religion, or one particular denomination. And we believe this makes us faithful Christians.
Lively worship on a human scale
We sing unaccompanied hymns and simple chants. We experience silence together. We listen to readings from sacred texts and from secular sources, including the newspaper. We share our own experiences and reflections, drawn from our own lives. Above all else, we strive to share an experience of encountering the Holy while just being ourselves.
Periodically, we meet for worship in the form of a shared meal in a members’ home. This ancient practice is the basis for all public worship, and includes potluck dinner, guided conversation, prayer, and reflection on our lives. Gathering this way, we can experience what Christian community might have been like in the first century after Jesus lived. But, you know, without having the Romans throw us to the lions.
Since we don't have our own building, each Sunday we build a “church” in our rented space (You're invited to come an hour early and join this joyful work!). Occasionally, when our landlord needs the space, we take our service on the road—we've worshiped in parks, and homes, and discussed holding a service in a barn! Join our mailing list to stay informed about where we are holding our service on a given week. Sign up at betsy@deruff.com
